What Is Global Warming - 1058 Words

What is global warming? Global warming is the increase of the earth’s average surface temperature, due to the effect of greenhouse gases; such as carbon dioxide emissions by burning fossil fuels and deforestation. The Greenhouse then traps these gases which creates heat that would otherwise escape from earth. This is what you would call a greenhouse effect. These Greenhouse gases mainly consist of water vapour. As we know, this isn’t directly caused by humankind in significant amounts. However, any increase in the atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide can cause a substantial increase in the Earth’s temperature. And guess whose fault this is: ours. Human beings have risen the CO2 concentration levels by 30%, which is an extremely†¦show more content†¦The following graph shows the dramatic increase of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere over the last 160 years. â€Å"The current level, and projected increase over the next hundred years if we do not curb emissions, are also shown (the part of the curve which goes way up high, to the right of the current level, is the projected CO2 rise). The projected increase in CO2 is very startling and disturbing. Changes in the Earth s average surface temperature are also shown (the lower curve, with units on the left). Note that it parallels the CO2 level curve very well†. [ ] Why should we live sustainably? As well as focusing on the topic of Global warming on why we should live sustainably, we also need to live sustainably for the fact that we are running out natural resources. Without limiting the use of new products and increasing the amount of products we recycle, we will find ourselves at a deficit. For example, fossil fuels and oil – 100 years from now, if we continue to use these precious products at the rate we do today, we will have a dangerously low level of these resources that we use so frequently today. Oil is used in absolutely everything, from your clothes, to cars, to tires and the plastic on your toothbrushes. In addition to this, the expansion of the world’s population will increase the demand for these resources. Australians are one of the largest
